Variations for Classic Shooting

Having decided to take up Classic Shooting you will need to make a case for a variation of your Firearm Certificate to acquire suitable firearms. You will need to be in a club where you can use your guns with suitable ranges for the type of shooting that you want to do. Once in the club as a Full Member (you can be accepted immediately in a new club as a Full Member if you already hold a FAC) you can make an application.

Good Reason. "Target shooting in the XYZ Rifle Club or Muzzle Loading Pistol Club" is your "Good Reason" on your Form 101. I would recommend that you also include a covering letter detailing the reasons for wanting each of the firearms you want to buy. Often they will be of the same calibre which tends to confuse the bureaucratic mind. You will want to compete in different age classes with different firearms as detailed in your letter and explained below.

Suitable Firearms. Examples of firearms that would be suitable for use in classic shooting would be:

Substitute the words in italics for the calibres of the actual firearms you want. The calibres quoted above are suitable for the classes they are paired up with but there are many more suitable calibres.  In your covering letter list the variations you are asking for with the classes for which they are suitable.  That way there is no doubt about what you need each firearm for.

These are only suggestions and examples. There is a vast range and variety to choose from and you will get a better idea from talking to other shooters and seeing what they use. You will find that they are very willing to talk about their classic firearms!!

When you have your suitably varied FAC you can obtain the firearm from a dealer.
